GRC Mott MacDonald was originally formed by four partners as
GRC Consultants in 1986 and has always been based in Alton,
Hampshire.
The company was formed to fulfil a need in a niche market in the
pharmaceutical, biotechnology and related industries for specialist
engineering and project management services.
A pattern quickly emerged of Clients requesting GRC to proceed
beyond a feasibility or front end study, the initial brief, to
carry out the management of the execution of the project. This was
particularly so where the Client was a start-up company or spin-off
from academic research.
The bulk of our work was in biotechnology in the late 80’s and
early 90’s, but as the 90’s progressed the market changed and the
emphasis moved to secondary pharmaceuticals, particularly oral
solid dose.
Work carried out for clients ranged from outline studies costing a
few thousand pounds to the project management of a major vaccines
facility with an installed cost of around £20m. In addition lump
sum engineering, procurement and construction contracts were
undertaken up to values of £5m.
