Containment transfer

Many situations exist within the Biopharmaceutical industry where materials need to be transferred from one piece of equipment to another.

This must be done in such a way so as to minimise exposure risks both to operator and product.

The Rapid Transfer Port (RTP) is a device common to isolators. The port can be interlocked to a number of devices, including other isolators to make a chain. The RTP is quick, simple and very effective at ensuring containment during transport.

Butterfly Valves are often used to provide an isolating function whilst ensuring a low possibility of contamination. This is particularly so with the ‘split’ butterfly which ensures that the potentially contaminated faces of the butterfly disc are not exposed to the environment.

For lower risk products, transfers may be made manualy or automatically in custom designed crossflow or downflow boooths, as ilustrated. These devices, when correctly applied, give some measure of product protection as well as operator protection.
