Front End Design (FED) work is generally carried out in GRC
Mott MacDonald’s Alton office.
However, this is a crucial phase in any project and we believe
that working closely with the client’s team is essential if true
benefit is to be gained from the FED. Consequently the FED is
kicked off with a meeting at the client’s premises at which the
maximum number of staff with potential input to the definition of
the project can be present.
At this ‘brainstorming’ meeting is agreed the User Requirement
Brief (URB), the first formalised definition of the project.
Granulation From the URB are developed design
documents and drawings which form the basis of Request for Tenders
which are issued to competent contractors and suppliers in order to
obtain bids which can be used to assemble a project cost estimate
at an accuracy, generally, of + 10%. Such an estimate would allow
the client to put in place project funding with a high degree of
confidence.
Over the years GRC Mott MacDonald has carried out many FED’s, often
leading to subsequent project execution, including commissioning
and validation where appropriate.
